Objectives of the Trust
The benefits of the Trust are open to all students of Mathematics. The Trust will not carry on any activity with the intension of making profit and will function with the following objectives and commitments.
(a) Motivating students to get higher degrees in mathematics
(b) Providing 5 Best Paper Awards with Rs. 2,000/- per award every year to the researchers presenting best papers at the annual conferences of (i) ADMA (Academy of Discrete Mathematics and its Applications, and (ii) RMS (Ramanujam Mathematical Society).
(c) Providing an annual recurring grant of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees five thousand only) to each of the ADMA and RMS to invite a good mathematician to deliver the Professor. R. Balakrishnan Endowment Lecture at the annual conferences of each of these two societies.
(d) Providing annual cash awards for the first two rank holders – one for the best student of I M.Sc. (Mathematics) and another to the best student of II M.Sc. (Mathematics) in the five institutions, namely : (i) Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli (ii) National College, Tiruchirappalli, (iii) Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, (iv) Periyar University, Salem, and (v) Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre, SASTRA University, Kumbakonam.
(e) Funding 12 different Departments of Mathematics to run a Compact Course in each year. A Compact Course shall be given by an external expert. There shall be at least 3 lectures, one on each day for 3 consecutive days with each lecture is for at least 1 ½ hours duration. The interested department shall contact the Regional Coordinator who in turn will suggest a list of three speakers to the President of the Trust. The President would then recommend one of them. A grant of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only) would be provided by the Trust. This amount of Rs. 25,000/- shall be used by the Organizing Department for the honorarium and T.A. for the expert. Incidental expenses shall be borne by the Organizing Department.
Each Region shall conduct two compact courses every year, one during the first semester and another during the second semester.
The first semester program will be held at an Arts & Science Institution / University while the second semester program will be held at the Mathematics department of an Engineering Institution.
